Description

This is a 30sec brand identity research clip for an audio tours company called D-Tours.

It's about Brussels, my home city. About a special part of it, where people from Brussels and their special mixed way of talking are said to originate. Les Marolles.

3D modelling Philippe Pappart & myself
Animation Davide & stop-motion assembly: myself
Motion Tracking Anthony & myself (mostly Anthony :))
Colorimetry TeeTs
Model Benjamin Gueniot
Color key myself
Music/Sound Theophane Bertuit
SoundTake Donia, Francois
Studio, Ext and Surround Soundtakes direction Donia & myself

You'll recognise the warm voice off of Charlie Dupont (second role in Stefan Liberski's Bunker Paradise, a 2005 film). I'm a oldtimer fan of Liberski's work as he used to be a comic performer before being a film director, and used to sneak in the studios to watch him peform with the Snul's comic group.

Note: this projects' concept's for sale (broadcast quality, HD on demand). It has a cheap replicable production method.

Edit: This is a school project, and my first 'ad' ever. Created, produced and directed within less than a month, so whereas it clearly shows a school level of finish, I could get hands-on the techniques that I wanted to work with, i/e animation, for which I choose someone having no prior experience to get the most error-related feedback from my teachers. (Also I wanted to become 'glitch conscious' and this personal choice is due to I love knowledge transfer so if one day I find someone really talented, I'd be then able to... well *winks*) We were definitely in a deadline-hurry (reads *poorly organised*) so when it comes to post-production, final sound editing and finish, I had to resign to handle this as it is here. Oh well ^^
If one's interested though that can be changed in a matter of days now, the workflow is at least under control now *ahem* lols. word, though. ^^

Edit2: Some technical explanation about the shots in this video, since a lot of it happened in studio: Benjamin, the actor is only outside in the street in the 3-layered shot in the middle.
So there are two key shots that I wanted to experiment on that video, where Benjamin is in the studio and only integrated in the video in post-production:
1/ the around the actor pan-travelling like the extract of my avatar, that expands to the horizon and to his subjective view over his shoulder in the video up to the end of that sequence;
2/ the front shot which is actually a trans-trav (like in Jaws, an effect that Spielberg has experienced in Jaws (when he's realizing the sharkie is there, him on the beach (Ithink))).
In both shots the camera is mounted on a dolly and rolled on rails: on a round path on 1/, on a straight path on 2/.
If there's a Spielberg fan or cinephile that reads this don't hesitate to correct me or to critique! ^-^b be welcome!

It's really well made, I really enjoyed it, and found it interesting. I would have liked to have seen a little more of the city, I don't know if it would have been really cloggy if there were images that popped up during 0:13-0:17 to let the viewer see what he was seeing you know?

But I think it's really neat, you guys did an amazing job! <3
